Cisco Meeting Server

Enhancing the On-Premise Video Conferencing Platform

“Going to the cloud” seems to be the talk of the town; however, the cloud is not everyone’s cup of tea. Cisco continues to offer a premise-based conferencing option for those looking for such options.

Cisco Meeting Server brings premises-based video, audio, and web communication together to meet the collaboration needs of the modern workplace. It works with third-party devices, and provides an enjoyable and intuitive user experience. It also scales easily, and can be purchased using the all-in-one, user-based multiparty licensing offer. The Product Features

There are a lot of features provided by Cisco Meeting Server, but to give a high-level overview below are some of the features:

  • You have the privilege of customizing the audio, video, layouts, etc. of the meetings in the Cisco meeting server as per customer requirements.

  • The CMA (Cisco Meeting App) in the Cisco meeting server provides the flexibility to create, join and run meetings from any Web Browser to anyone. You basically do not need any application to join meetings. Just make sure you are using a supported web browser and version.

  • The WebApp is also the user’s portal to create meeting spaces, which they can then modify (for example, change the space’s name, add PINs, etc.) and share meeting join information.

  • It provides flexibility to customize the branding of the Web pages provided you should have the license.

  • Management in CMS is done by Cisco Meeting Management.

My Role

As a UX Designer in the project, I worked on various features for Cisco Meeting Server and Cisco Meeting Management (CMM) which is an admin-operated managing tool for meetings. A few features I worked on have been a part of the releases 3.5 to 3.7; some of them being:

  • Adding a virtual background in a meeting

  • Media statistics of a meeting

  • License management in CMM

  • Creating breakout rooms in meetings

Apart from end-to-end feature design, I have also improved the overall experience of the product by

  • performing UX Audits,

  • improving accessibility support like providing proper text for screen readers and optimizing the tabbing flows,

  • performing regular reviews of different features which have been developed and raising bugs wherever required,

  • reducing design debt by optimizing DesignOps in the project which was missing earlier.

  • I also took up the initiative of streamlining a Design System for CMS which was being done arbitrarily earlier on.
